Cyberpatriot

CyberPatriot is a youth cybersecurity competition that takes place nationwide in the US. The competition consists of three basic rounds, semifinals, and finals that is an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington D.C. The team is made up of 2-6 members tasked with taking an operating system such as Windows 10, Server, and Ubuntu, and securing its vulnerabilities. This competition inspires middle school and high school students to explore CyberSecurity and its careers to prepare them for a future in cyberdefense.

Rules:  From the getting started page, under the how section the last link is a link to the rules document. This will show the complete competition rules for the current season. Each year, an updated rulebook is sent out to meet the new conditions. However, some major and general rules to follow are:

  1. The CyberPatriot competition lasts 6 hours and starts when a team member opens their image as the VMWare player.

  2. Even going a second over 6 hours results in a disqualification from the competition.

  3. After the competition has been completed, the downloads must be completely removed from the computer so that they cannot be altered at the later date. This will also result in disqualification.

  4. Images cannot be run simultaneously. (For example, two computers cannot have the same Windows 10 image open.

  5. Competition usually takes place on the weekends from Friday - Sunday. It is best to complete the competition during these given days. However, if an emergency comes, a rain date can be requested from CyberPatriot.

  6. You are allowed to use google and other public resources. (Rule of thumb: If the resource is on the internet and is available to everyone then it can be used to help you in the competition.

  7. Teams are not allowed to help each other during the competition. Training and practicing which each other is allowed and encouraged.
