Robotics

What is Robotics: Robotics is the combination of the use of computer science and mechanical/electrical engineering in order to achieve a desired result. In the Robotics SMART team, cadets will use a combination of design, construction, and operation to build working robotics in simulators, giving them the necessary tools and knowledge necessary to build robots in real life. The Robotics team will be using 3-d electronic simulators such as TinkerCad and programming platforms such as c and c++ to build working robots. Civil Air Patrol places a high priority on its STEM fields, and the immersive and education experience received in robotics does not disappoint!

Topics covered in Robotics:

  • What are LEDs & How to use them

  • Functions of a breadboard and arduino

  • Diodes and how to use them

  • Resistors and transistors

  • Soft vs hard robots

  • Programming: integers, for/while loops, if/else statements, void loops, etc.

Careers in which robotics may be useful:

  • Prosthetics (medical)

  • Electrical engineering

  • Design and technology

  • Computing and programming

Why should you join robotics: Robotics encourages creative thinking in order to overcome challenges faced in one's natural environment, while also strengthening one's intelligence and mental capacity.
